Science-Based Approach

How We Use Science in Manhattan Prenatal Massage Therapy?

Being comfortable is the most important part of your pregnancy massage experience. All of our staff are trained in prenatal massage and can massage you in a side-lying position or face down. Each time you visit, you will have a consultation with your massage therapist to assess how you might be most comfortable and if anything in your health history has changed.

Our priority is to keep you safe and comfortable. Even if you change your mind partway through the massage about a position being comfortable, we can move you. We have extra pillows and blankets on hand to adjust table positions with ease.

Our prenatal massage NYC sessions are designed to help you with stress management and also target pain and problems if you need them. Each one of our sessions is custom to you, but typically they are a full body massage unless you want otherwise. Your massage room will be dimly lit and we play music to help you relax.

Please be sure to tell your massage therapist about any complications you might have or if you are uncomfortable so that they can advise you of the best options for your specific situation.

Your Comfort, Your Choice

Prenatal Wellness Your Way – Face Down or Side-Lying Massage in Manhattan NYC

Our Manhattan massage space is equipped with all the things to make you have the most comfortable wellness and therapeutic massage experience possible. Not all things are right for all people, so we adapt the massage to you. Each one of our rooms has a pregnancy massage table, which enables us to treat pregnant women of all shapes and sizes face down, just like a traditional massage. Do not worry! We will not be squishing, baby; there is plenty of room.

Most women love our prenatal massage tables, but some people are more comfortable and prefer to have their massage on their side. When you have a massage on your side, the term for that is called side-lying. Both a traditional massage position, and a massage where you are pillowed onto your side are equally as good. What matters most is your comfort and safety and there is no one size fits all solution.

Session Planning

Optimizing Prenatal Massage Frequency for a Healthy Pregnancy in New York

The frequency of prenatal massage in Manhattan is entirely up to you. Many NYC women see us once a week for their entire pregnancy, but others might come in as needed. However, for high-risk pregnancies or complications, the frequency and timing of prenatal massage should be determined in consultation with a healthcare provider. Communication with a qualified prenatal massage therapist and healthcare team is essential to ensure a safe and customized treatment plan throughout pregnancy.

FAQ

FAQs About Our Prenatal Massage Therapy in Manhattan NYC

Can I have a massage at any stage of pregnancy?

Yes! Provided you have no pregnancy complications, you are likely a candidate for massage therapy while pregnant. Ask your doctor, what they recommend? Be sure to tell them you would be going to a licensed health care provider/massage therapist for your massage.

Can I have a massage in the first trimester?

Yes! There are no problems with having a massage in the first trimester. Many people do not even know they are pregnant when they have their first prenatal massage.

Can I have my ankles massaged in pregnancy?

Yes! There is no medical issue with having your feet or ankles massaged in pregnancy. It does not cause early labor, if it did there would be a massage therapist in every delivery room. This myth comes out of a tradition on massage but is not based in science.

Are your massage therapists Certified in prenatal massage?

There is actually no prenatal massage certification. Massage therapists can take a class in prenatal massage or hold a certificate in prenatal massage. Ie they can have taken extra training. Most massage therapists will have gotten prenatal training in school, if they need more training we make sure they get it before being a provider at our location.

How late In my pregnancy can I have a massage?

You can have a massage right up until you deliver. Some people bring massage therapists to their delivery if they are also doulas.

What is in your lotion? I am trying to keep additives and parabens out of my life while pregnant?

We have 2 main options for you. We recommend for our pregnancy massage the JoJoba Oil we have in the office. We selected this oil as it is very close to the skin’s natural sebum and has no additives. We also have a hypoallergenic lotion if you prefer to use that. If you have skin sensitivities to either of those we also have grape seed oil available on request at the office. This also has no additives.

Is having a massage while I am pregnant safe?

Having a massage can be safe at any stage of your life, but there are some reasons not to have a massage. Please ask us or your healthcare provider about your specific situation. There are some health conditions that are contraindicated for massage. Conditions like blood clots or uncontrolled diabetes can cause complications, for example. It is very important that you fill out your healthcare questionnaires and update your provider on any changes. This is not specific to pregnancy but to all health conditions.

Are there any specific precautions or contraindications for Prenatal Massage?

While Prenatal Massage is generally safe for most expectant mothers, there are certain precautions and contraindications to be aware of, especially for high-risk pregnancies or women with certain medical conditions. It is important to discuss any concerns or medical history with your massage therapist before starting treatment.

Testimonials

What our clients say

I was in pain, and I mean by the truck loads. Stupidly, I ignored it, popped some 800mg Advil and kept chugging along. After a few days of this, I woke up unable to walk upright without being in teeth-clenching misery. I couldn’t put the pain off any more. I asked around and a friend pointed me to Body Mechanics. Luckily, a spot had just opened up and I hobbled over to the office like a man three times my age. I’m not a man that believes in miracles, but believe me when I say a miracle was performed. I don’t know how she knew, but she knew exactly where everything hurt and fixed it. Massage therapy doesn’t even come close to describing what I experienced. I walked out of the office standing straight up, sore in a good way, and, most importantly, pain free. It was worth every damn penny and then some. Do yourself a favor, don’t wait for the pain to win, just go here.
